Foods you should eat:

-    Food, containing starch, such as: bread, rice, potato, legumes. With this food a woman receives additional energy that is so necessary for her during breastfeeding period;

-    Food rich in cellulose, especially chiselly bread, porridges, macaroni, rice, fruits and vegetables. After childbirth women often feel pain in a belly area, suffer from constipations. Cellulose helps her solving both problems;

-    More fruits and vegetables (fresh, frozen, dried and canned). It is good eating 4-5 portions of different fruits and vegetables a day;

-    Albuminous food (fish, lean meat, eggs). Fish is recommended at least twice a week;

-    Dairy produce (milk, cheese, yogurt), all these foods contain calcium (calcium is washed away from organism during pregnancy quickly).

It is also recommended drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day.

Vitamins

During breastfeeding period it is recommended taking complexes, containing vitamin D (10 mcg per day).

Be cautious

Sometimes when a woman eats some food, a baby also reacts to it (rash, anxiety, crying), in such case one should stop taking food causing a baby’s negative reaction and apply to a doctor. Some food can cause allergy in a baby.

During breastfeeding period you should restrict:

-    Consumption of fat fish up to 2 portions a week. Fat fish includes: fresh tuna, mackerel, sardines and trout.

-    Drinking caffeinated drinks, as there is a risk that it will come to a baby through milk. During this period it is recommended drinking tea, coffee and other drinks without caffeine;

-    Some people have allergy on nuts and seeds. If someone from your family has allergy on nuts or seeds, it is not recommended eating them during breastfeeding period.

Should you eat for two during breastfeeding period?

During breastfeeding period balanced nutrition is very important, but there is no necessity eating for two.

Do not stick to any diets during breastfeeding period, as this will affect your milk’s quality, and as a result a baby will miss vitally important nutritive elements. Overweight you gain during pregnancy will be used for milk production later, so, if you breastfeed your baby, overweight problem will disappear soon.
