t0rx3.jpgAmerican scientists proved consumption of two and more cups of coffee a day during pregnancy increases risk of miscarriage twice.

1063 women took part in a research, which materials were published in one of the latest American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology publication. All these women kept on drinking their usual volume of coffee during pregnancy. Doctors observed participants up to 20th week of pregnancy, and during this period 172 women had miscarriages.

Basing on gathered information, chief scientist established together with his colleagues, that pregnant women, who drank regularly 200 and more mg of caffeine, had miscarriages twice more often, than women avoiding coffee. According to chief scientist, negative caffeine’s effect is explained by its influence on fetus’s metabolism, besides, this substance can lower blood flow in placenta, what harms future baby.

Experts recommend women quitting caffeine completely during first three months after conception, and, if this is possible, during whole pregnancy. Dangerous dose, equal to 200 mg caffeine, is contained in three cups of coffee beans, four cups of instant coffee, six cups of tea or eight cans of caffeinated drinks.
