We seldom think of effect colour has on our life. A habit of seeing the sky — dark blue, grass — green, and blood — red, is so strong that we cannot imagine other combinations. Our mood, behaviour, state of health are closely connected with colour scale of environment — colour of landscape, interior of premises, clothes. But how colour influences our life? Why we perceive colours so differently, we love one and we hate others? Why we are so sensitive to the colour environment surrounding us?

Sensation of heat and cold

Colours of red-yellow part of spectrum cause sensation of heat, colour of dark-blue part — sensation of cold. Sensations of excitation and calm, activity and passivity.

Red colour renders the most active and exciting action. Orange and yellow colours reduce sensation of activity and aggression, but the feeling of ease and pleasure increases. Green colour combines ease and vivacity. Dark blue bears sensation of calmness and passivity.

While combination of active and passive colours it is necessary to consider that the first are always perceived more brightly and remembered better. Therefore, they should be in smaller doses for achievement of balance.

Sensation of time and space

The greatest feeling of removal from a subject is created by colours of dark-blue part of spectrum. Orange-yellow colours give effect of approach of subjects to the observer. The perception in a spectrum of dark-blue colours is slowed down up to sensation of its full stop. The maximum sensation of acceleration is reached in the field of yellow and orange.

Red. Red is the colour of passions. It is chosen by strong, courageous, vigorous and active people. They possess strong will, are imperious and lead full, sated life. Persons with courageous character, independent and imperious, often altruists. They are sociable, aspire for domination in dialogue with people, authoritative, make decisions quickly, inquisitive, sometimes speak faster, than think. Live «here and now», can show lowered self-checking and irascibility.

Green. Green colour — colour of hope and open way, the nature, life, spring — is loved by conservative people with desire of self-affirmation and upholding of own position, claims, ideals. Green colour is loved by people with proud, severe and authoritative character. In work they are persistent and capable to bring matters to the end, despite resistance and difficulties. They are people of strong will, persevering, consecutive, sometimes obstinate in purpose achievement. Steady attachments and interests are peculiar to them.

Black. Black colour reflects process of braking, restriction of external influences. People loving black colour have hightened requirement for independence, internal protest against pressure from outside and imposings of authorities. These people are ready to renounce because of the obstinate protest against existing state of affairs. In behaviour they often act in opposition, like to argue and resist to destiny. They consider their ideals unattainable.

Pink. Pink is a colour of life, but speaks about requirement to love and be kinder. Impressionable, unripe, sentimental, passive, shy and feeling people like pink color. They are gentle, reserved, emotional people who can worry in any insignificant occasion.

White. In psychological relation this colour brings little information, it is preferred by people with absolutely opposite features of character, it is neutral. It is chosen by people aspiring to independence and freedom.

Violet. Violet can speak about subconscious desire to be pleasant and aspiration to coquetry. People with propensity to auto-suggestion choose violet. However, people with high spirituality, delicacy and emotionality can also choose this colour. Often they feel requirement for leaving from reality, are inclined to irrational claims, unreal requirements to life.

Yellow. Yellow colour symbolises calmness, ease of relations with people, intelligence. It is chosen by people with developed intuition, imagination, inquisitiveness and curiosity. They are optimists are also focused on future, sociable, but in dialogue are violent and expansive, in acts they are courageous, aspire to clearing of problems and cares, in work they are impatient, fussy and hardworking by fits.

Brown. Those who stand on sure ground prefer this color. They give great value to house, family, friends, traditions. They are true and firm people. Often people who are feeling discomfort or being in a conflict condition, illness, or people with hightened uneasiness, feeling requirement for rest, psychological and emotional comfort prefer brown.

Grey. People, feeling requirement for rest, being fenced off and released from everything like this color. They are judicious and mistrustful. Cautious restraint and reserve are peculiar to them. They think a lot before making some decision, prefer staying in the shadow and not entering considerable quantity of contacts.
