If your doctor prescribed you a n0-salt diet, this means you should add no salt to your food, however, do not forget many foods already contain sodium. These are beets, carrots, spinach, and particularly celery. Note that salt-free does not necessarily mean sodium-free.
Garlic and onion powder are excellent substitutes for salt in savory recipes, particularly onion powder.

No Salt Spaghetti Sauce
2 medium onions, chopped
1 teaspoon olive oil, or non-stick spray
2 cloves garlic, minced
32 ounces tomatoes, canned, no salt
12 ounces tomato paste, no salt
1 cup red wine
1 cup water
2 teaspoons oregano leaves, dried
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon sugar
In a deep saucepan, cook onion in oil or non-stick spray until soft.
Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 2 to 3 hours.
Taste after 1 1/2 hours and adjust seasoning.
Sauteed mushrooms are a great addition.
Balsamic Vinegar Marinade
1 cup balsamic
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tsp mixed spices such as garlic, basil, oregano, lemon pepper etc.
If your a fan of Italian cuisine like I am, then a balsamic vinegar dressing is a must. I use it a lot with my low sodium foods Balsamic is a dark-brown syrupy vinegar with a smooth sweet-sour flavor, produced in the Modena region of Italy.
No Salt Seasoning Mix
May be used in salads or salad dressings, or as flavoring in vegetable dishes, or in sauces.
2 tbsp. dried basil
2 tbsp. dried marjoram
2 tbsp. dried savory
2 tbsp. garlic powder
1 tbsp. dried rosemary
1 tbsp. dried thyme
1 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning or sage
1 1/2 tsp. pepper
Place all the ingredients in a small grinder or blender.
Blend to a coarse consistency.
Pour into your salt shaker or store in a tightly covered jar.
Be sure to label the contents.
A low sodium diet is often recommended for those trying to prevent or reduce high blood pressure, diabetics or those with chronic kidney disease.
